Irish Champion Pathfork, who will stand at the Sandown Stud this season, has enjoyed big success with his two-year-olds this season and the former National Stakes winner was at it again on Wednesday.
Pathfork gelding Priceless Ruler, who had been fourth in a barrier trial at his only previous racetrack appearance, showed plenty of courage to score in open company over 1200m at Greyville’s mid-week meeting.
The Dennis Drier trained 2yo, backed down to start a 17-10 shot, prevailed in a thrilling finish to win Wednesday’s third race by a short head.
Priceless Ruler, who is out of the National Assembly mare Antonia’s Law, was a R500 000 buy from the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Bred by Highlands, Priceless Ruler is bred on the same Pathfork/National Assembly cross as this season’s Listed East Cape Nursery/Lady’s Slipper winner Madame Speaker.
He is the ninth two-year-old winner this season for former Irish Champion 2YO Pathfork, whose other notable juvenile winners in 2017-2018 include unbeaten G1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Mighty High, a leading contender for Equus Award honours.
Pathfork has seven lots on offer at next month’s KZN Yearling Sale.
