Philanthropist filly honoured in KZN

30th Aug 2017

Drakenstein Stud’s highly successful young sire Philanthropist made headlines at Tuesday night’s KZN Racing Awards when his daughter Sail was awarded with the title of Best Performance by Three-Year-Old Filly for the past 2016-2017 racing season.

Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, Sail was third in both the G2 Daisy Fillies Guinea and G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes  last season.

From her sire’s first local crop of runners, Sail, also runner up in last season’s G2 Choice Carriers Fillies Championship, has won or placed in ten of only 13 outings and banked nearly R500 000 in stakes.

She is one of no fewer than seven South African stakes horses produced in Philanthropist’s first local crop, with other notable runners including exported G2 Dingaans winner Singapore Sling and G1 Garden Province Stakes second She’s A Giver.

Philanthropist could well be in a similar position next year, as the son of Kris S has some very exciting three-year-old fillies representing him this season.
Among them are G2 Golden Slipper third Tsessebe (like Sail, trained by Dennis Drier), the stakes placed filly Outlander and very impressive recent winner Melinda’s Garden –who won second time out over 1000m by three and a quarter lengths.

She’s A Giver

Philanthropist, who remains high on the list of leading All Weather Sires in North America, is from the same male line as Champion South African sire Captain Al and from the same female line as Champion South African sire of 2yos National Assembly.
