Bail Out, a three-parts brother to Drakenstein Stud’s highly successful sire Philanthropist, is one of 360 three-year-olds nominated for the 2018 US Triple Crown (Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Belmont Stakes).
Last horse to win the Triple Crown was American Pharoah, who was victorious in the treble back in 2015.
A son of Arch (who is by Philanthropist’s sire Kris S), the unraced Bail Out is out of the outstanding Mr Prospector mare Hidden Reserve (a full-sister to G1 Top Flight Handicap heroine Educated Risk), who was second in the G2 Demoiselle Stakes.
Hidden Reserve is the dam of three individual graded stakes winners, headed by Philanthropist- North America’s Leading All Weather Sire (by prize money) in 2014.
Philanthropist, whose six career wins included the G3 Queens County Handicap, is a half-brother to Defer and Reload, winners of the G3 Laurel Futurity and G3Tampa Bay Stakes respectively.
This is the same family as legendary champion Native Dancer –who won two of the three legs of the Triple Crown in 1953.
Philanthropist is enjoying another memorable season, with his G2 Dingaans winning son Singapore Sling proving one of the four-year-old stars in Hong Kong this season.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud Singapore Sling won impressively over 1650m two starts back before finishing second in the HKG1 Hong Kong Classic Mile last time out.
Philanthropist has two yearlings on the 2018 Cape Yearling Sale –a half-sister to the stakes placed filly Silent Rush (Lot10) and a filly out of a full-sister to G3 winner Bit On The Side (Lot 11).
