Pomodoro relative impresses at Turffontein

26th Feb 2018

Chariot Of Gold, a close relative of Klawervlei Stud’s promising young sire Pomodoro, broke her maiden in impressive fashion at Turffontein on Saturday.
Trained, like Pomodoro, by Sean Tarry, the Klawervlei Stud bred 3yo came from the back of the 14 horse field to draw clear and post a 1.1 length in the 1600m contest.

The view that Pomodoro’s rivals got use to!

Chariot Of Gold, making just her third racecourse appearance, was trying the mile trip for a first time.

She was ridden to victory by Piere Strydom, who partnered Pomodoro himself to a famous win in the 2012 G1 Vodacom Durban July, where the pair teamed up to beat eight individual G1 winners including multiple G1 winning Equus Champion Beach Beauty.

A daughter of Silvano, Chariot Of Gold was produced by Quest For Gold, whose seven wins included the Listed Spook Express Handicap.

Quest For Gold, in turn, is a half-sister to Pomodoro and G2 Betting World 1900 winner Golden Chariot.

Chariot Of Gold was a R1 000 000 buy from the 2016 Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale.

The July winning Pomodoro has made a cracking start to his stud career with his early runners including the very promising pair of Royal Italian and Kuda Sprint runner up Cirillo, and, at the time of writing, is South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire by earnings.

Another son by Pomdoro, Opensea, won a barrier trial in smart fashion at Greyville on Friday, beating older rival Bombs Away by a length -with a gap of more than seven lengths back to the third place finisher.

A son of seven times champion sire Jet Master, Pomodoro has 15 lots on offer at the 2018 April Yearling Sale, which takes place at Durbanville racecourse from April 12-13th.
