Qualisaga, whose dam is a half-sister to Cape sires Quasillo and Querari, made it win number five when she won the Listed Prix Isola Bella Fonds Europeen De L’Elevage at Saint-Cloud on Tuesday.
The five-year-old Sageburg daughter hit the board in ParisLongchamp’s May 12 Listed Prix Maurice Zilber in her penultimate start and returned off a break to earn a first stakes rosette over this trip back there last time in the Oct. 20 Listed Prix du Ranelagh. Saddled with a three-pound impost for that latest success, she raced on the front end until headed by Dathanna inside the quarter-mile marker and rallied gamely under late cajoling to deny that rival nearing the line for a second black-type triumph.
Qualisaga is the first foal out of the unraced Qualita, a Konigstiger half-sister to G1 Premio Presidente Repubblica winner Querari, G3 Bavarian Classic winner Quasillo and G2 Canadian Stakes/G2 Ballston Spa Stakes winner Quidura.
South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2Yos last season, Querari made headlines at Turffontein last Saturday when his promising 3yo daughter Mill Queen won the G3 HSH Princess Charlene Starling Stakes in impression fashion.
His G3 winning half-brother Quasillo, a winner of two of only three starts, is the only son of outstanding racehorse and sire Sea The Stars currently at stud in South Africa.
