Querari son impresses on debut

2nd Feb 2018

Maine Chance Farms’ top class stallion Querari had a smart looking two-year-old winner at Fairview on Friday.
The Highway Man, bred by Dr Ian Heyns, won smartly on debut, besting favourite Tune The Scope by three parts of a length to make a winning debut by over 1000m.

Out of the Kahal mare La Mascarata (making the colt intensely inbred to Green Desert),  The Highway Man was a R110 000 purchase from the 2017 National Two Year Old Sale.

The colt is a first juvenile winner of the season for G1 winner and prominent young sire Querari.
The latter is no stranger, however, to siring high class 2yos, with Querari also responsible for such as Querari Falcon (G1 Thekwini Stakes), Cosmic Light (G2 The Debutante), Melliflora (2nd Thekwini Stakes), Joking (Dahlia Plate), and Dynamic Speed (2nd East Cape Nursery).

Querari had yearlings fetch up to R1 million at the 2018 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, with the top price of an even million paid for the filly out of Caramanta.

He has a single lot on the 2018 Cape Yearling Sale – a colt whose granddam is an own sister to G1 Gold Medallion second Monsieur Dominique (Lot 92).
