RED RAY BROTHER IMPRESSES AT SCOTTSVILLE

24th Jun 2018

Northern Route, a half-brother to Klawervlei’s well performed young stallion Red Ray, made a considerable impression when winning over 1200m at Scottsville on Saturday.

A three-year-old colt by Go Deputy, the Lammerskraal Stud bred sophomore romped home to win by two and a half lengths going away for trainer Dennis Drier and jockey Sean Veale.
Fourth on debut, and victorious previously in a barrier trial, Northern Route looks a progressive sort and one well worth following!

He is a half-brother to no fewer than ten winners, notably the G1 winning own siblings Nania (Thekwini Stakes) and Red Ray.

The latter, whose eagerly awaited first foals arrive later this year, was a superb athlete who won or placed in seven G1 races and earned over R1.9 million during his career.

Leading young sire What A Winter -also by Western Winter

Red Ray, who shares his sire Western Winter with Leading First/Second Crop sire What A Winter and current high class performers Last Winter and Attenborough, scored his signature win when victorious in the 2016 G1 Mercury Sprint, beating G1 winners Fly By Night, Gulf Storm, Real Princess and Talktothestars.

Unbeaten in his first three races, and runner up in the G1 SA Nursery at two, Red Ray also romped to an effortless two and a half length win, over subsequent Horse Of The Year Legislate, in the 2013 G3 Cape Classic.

He won or placed in all of the Mercury Sprint, Cape Guineas, Cape Flying Championship (twice), and the Golden Horse Casino Sprint (twice).

Red Ray’s East Cape Oaks winning sister Valor Red made news at the 2018 National Sale, when her Captain Al colt was sold to the Hong Kong Jockey Club for R3.3 million, while another sibling, Bishop’s Bounty, accounted for high class performers Sergeant Hardy, Search Party, Dutch Philip and subsequent Computaform Sprint winner Attenborough when victorious in the 2018 G2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes.
