Boland Stud are taking an exceptionally strong, quality draft to the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, set to take place in Germiston at the end of April.

Among the stud’s more eye catching prospects for this year’s National Sale is lot 153, a colt by Maince Chance Farms’ young sire Vercingetorix.

Lot 153

An Equus Champion and multiple Gr1 winning son of multiple champion sire Silvano, Vercingetorix won all of the Gr1 Jebel Hatta, Gr1 Daily News 2000 , Gr2 Al Rashidiya and Gr2 KRA Guineas. Vercingetorix also ran second to outstanding Japanese galloper Just A Way in the 2014 Gr1 Dubai Duty Free, where he accounted for outstanding international stars Dank, Mshawish, and The Fugue.
The champion, whose first yearlings have made up to R625 000 this year, went unbeaten in four South African outings before embarking on a successful international campaign.

Trained by Mike de Kock, Vercingetorix was raced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum.

His bay son, lot 153, is a half-brother to a five time winner, and his dam is a full-sister to the Gr1 winning siblings Al Nitak (Champion Sprinter) and The Sheik (SA Guineas, Cape Derby, sire). Second dam, Jessamine, was South Africa’s Broodmare Of The Year in 2002.

Herself a multiple stakes winner, Jessamine’s six wining siblings included Gr1 Mercury Sprint winner Shoe Express and this is the same family as one of South Africa’s greatest ever racehorses –Politician.

Vercingetorix

The latter was Horse Of The Year three times, with his 18 wins including the Gr1 Durban July and the 1978and 1979 G1 J&B Met.

Other notable members of this family include the great champion Ragusa, winner of the Irish Derby, St Leger, Eclipse Stakes, and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes.

The Vercingetorix colt is bred on similar lines to Gr1 winners Bold Silvano, Kings Gambit and Al Sahem –all of whom are sired by Silvano out of daughters of Al Mufti.  Al Mufti is also broodmare sire of notable G1 winners Arabian Beat, Copper Parade, Jay Peg, Elusive Gold, Little Miss Magic, O Caesour, and exported Equus Champion Yorker.
