Varsfontein Stud’s resident sire Gimmethegreenlight enjoyed a memorable weekend, with his progeny faring well both on the racetrack –and in the sales ring!

The former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner had a quick-fire double at Kenilworth on Saturday, with his runners landing races four and five respectively.
First Gimmethegreenlight runner to score was the Alec and Gillian Foster bred and owned 3yo gelding Green Archer. Second last time out, the Justin Snaith trained 3yo ran on smartly to break his maiden over a mile.
Gimmethegreenlight was back in the very next race when another 3yo son, Gibraltar Green, powered home to win for Glen Puller over 2500 metres. Bred by the Hemel ‘n Aarde Stud, Gibraltar Green was a R70 000 buy from the 2016 March Yearling Sale.
He is bred on a similar More Than Ready/Danehill cross to G1 winners Benicio, Perfectly Ready and Sebring.
Gimmethegreenlight, whose daughters Beataboutthebush, Gimme Six and Rose In Bloom all run in Saturday’s G1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes, also enjoyed success in the sales ring this weekend.

A filly by Gimmethegreenlight was knocked down to Barry Irwin for R650 000 on the first day of the 2018 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, while a colt out of Las Ramblas made R525 000 to the bid of Mick Flanagan and Ross Doyle.
Gimmethegreenlight, represented by graded winners in each of his first two crops to race, has three yearlings on offer at the Cape Yearling Sale.
His draft includes a filly from the immediate family of 2018 Maktoum Challenge (Round 1) Heavy Metal (Lot 26), a filly out of a stakes placed daughter of Royal Academy (Lot 65) and a colt from the same family as recently crowned Japanese champion Lucky Lilac (Lot 90).
