Scottsville double for Master Of My Fate

5th Sep 2022

Varsfontein Stud’s increasingly successful homebred sire Master Of My Fate enjoyed another good weekend this week, with the son of Jet Master responsible for an impressive winner on Saturday in the form of Power Broker as well as two smart winners at Hollywoodbets Scottsville the following day.

Trained by Paul Peter, the lightly raced Power Broker made it two wins from just four starts when running out a convincing winner at Turffontein on Saturday. Under Muzi Yeni, the progressive three-year-old kept finding more in the closing stages to capture Saturday’s www.tab4racing.com Novice Handicap (1200m) by a length and a half over the promising I Am Giant.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Power Broker, who is out of the Fort Wood mare Nikki, was a R170 000 buy from the 2021 August Two Year Old Sale.

His sire Master Of My Fate’s good form continued the following day when that Varsfontein sire came up with the winners of races three and five respectively at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.

Master Of My Fate’s classy son After The Rain made a big impression when he made all to land Sunday’s SA Home Loans Pinnacle Stakes (1400m) for Gareth Van Zyl and Keagan De Melo. The flashy grey kept galloping relentlessly over the closing stages before staying on to score by two lengths at the expense of favourite Party Time.

Bred by the Limestone Thoroughbred Trust, After The Rain has now won five of just 12 starts.

His sire is also responsible for Broadway Girl, who benefitted from a blinker strike to land Sunday’s Track & Ball Gaming Maiden Plate (F&M) (1600m).
Trained, like her sire, by Dennis Drier, three-year-old Broadway Girl demolished her rivals in Sunday’s contest and went on to score by more than three lengths.

Bred by Boland Stud, Broadway Girl had finished third or fourth in her only three previous starts.

Her sire Master Of My Fate, also responsibe for last season’s stakes winning three-year-olds Gem King and Zapatillas, made headlines at the recent August Two Year Old Sale, where the son of Jet Master had juveniles fetch up to R650 000.
