Silvano daughter stamps her Summer Cup claim

10th Nov 2017

Maine Chance Farms’ resident reigning champion sire Silvano had another big payday at Turffontein yesterday night when his daughter Girl On The Run prevailed in a thrilling finish to the G3 Victory Moon Stakes for owner-breeders Maine Chance Farms.

Girl On The Run

The five-year-old mare, who is trained by Johan Janse Van Vuuren, dug down deep to best G3 Jubilee Handicap hero Coral Fever and score the second graded victory of her career by a short head.

Another high-class daughter of Silvano, G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic winner, Orchid Island, was back in fourth place.

Girl On The Run, whose previous wins included the 2016 G3 Yellowwood Handicap, has now won six of her 14 races, with the consistent five-year-old having only once finished out of the money.

Produced by the Badger Land mare Girl From Grenada, Girl On The Run has now banked R860 625 in stakes.

Silvano has already had one daughter land the Summer Cup (his Flirtation won the race back in 2010), and Girl On The Run will bid to become his second to do so.

Orchid Island

The multiple champion sire looks likely to be well represented in the Summer Cup, with daughters Wind Chill and Orchid Island also potential runners for Silvano.

Sire of 20 individual G1 winners, including four individual Vodacom Durban July winners, Silvano has already been represented by four individual feature race winners in 2017, including Bella Sonata (G2 Joburg Spring F&M Challenge), Nebula (Algoa Cup) and Strathdon (Woolavington Handicap).
