Singapore success for Var

23rd Jan 2017

Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s resident sire Var, who enjoyed another good sale at the past weekend’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale, had a good looking international winner when his son, Quicksilver, saluted in Singapore on Friday.

Ridden by former South African based rider Nuresh Juglall, the Ricardo Le Grange trained gelding bolted clear to romp home by 1.8 lengths over 1400m.

It was a third Singapore win for Quicksilver, who was bred by Boland Stud. Out of the Caesour mare Calpurnia, Quicksilver was a R280 000 buy from the 2013 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

Quicksilver, who races for the Avengers Stables, is another notable winner for sprint star Var, who has been enjoying another cracking season in 2016-2017 thus far. Var’s flagbearers this season include top class sprinter Rivarine, whose wins include the G3 Lebelo Sprint, as well as the eye catching two-year-old winners Bank On It and Namibia.

Var, the sire of champions Variety Club, Val De Ra and Via Africa, is well represented on Sun Met day. He has three runners in the Listed Princess Charlene Of Monaco Foundation SA Summer Juvenile Stakes, two in the R1 000 000 Kuda Sprint, four runners in the CTS Sprint, and four runners in the G1 Betting World Cape Flying Championship.

The son of Forest Wildcat also enjoyed good success at the weekend’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale, where his yearlings fetched up to R3.6 million.
