Smart debut winner for Gimmethegreenlight

5th Dec 2022

Varsfontein Stud’s champion resident sire Gimmethegreenlight is enjoying another fine season in 2022-2023 and the former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate struck yet again on Sunday.
Not only did Gimmethegreenlight’s son Mr Greenlight capture Sunday’s Swift Gold Cup Sprint at Borrowdale Park, Gimmethegreenlight’s two-year-old daughter Sovereign Grant made a smart introduction to racing when winning on debut at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.
Trained by Michael Miller, Sovereign Grant was always up with the pace in Sunday’s Smith Animal Feeds Maiden Juvenile Plate (800m), and when Serino Moodley asked the question, the speedy daughter of Gimmethegreenlight pulled away smartly to win by a length and a half, leaving her male rivals in her wake!
Sovereign Grant was bred by Varsfontein Stud.
Out of the Jallad mare Queen Of All, Sovereign Grant is a full-sister to Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes winner Queen Forever.
Her sire Gimmethegreenlight has been in fine form of late, with the son of More Than Ready also responsible for impressive recent G2 Betway Ipi Tombe Challenge winner Gimme A Shot, as well as eye catching two-year-old winner Gimmelightning.
Gimmethegreenlight has also enjoyed a good spell in the sales ring during the past few weeks.
Not only did a Gimmethegreenlight filly make R1 200 000 to top the recent November Two Year Old Sale, a Gimmethegreenlight colt made R340 000 to top the recent Piemonte Stud Dispersal Sale.
