The Drakenstein Stud based Cartier Champion Duke Of Marmalade was responsible for an eye catching two-year-old winner at the Vaal on Tuesday when his daughter Rise As One made a sparkling, winning debut.
Bred by part-owner Laurence Wernars, two-year-old Rise As One ran on gamely under jockey Gavin Lerena to score a one length win in Tuesday’s 1000 maiden juvenile plate for fillies.
Trained by Johan Janse Van Vuuren, Rise As One is out of the Dynasty mare Divine Right.
Her five time G1 winning sire Duke Of Marmalade has been enjoying success as both a sire and broodmare sire this season, and his multiple stakes winning maternal granddaughter Antonia De Vega holds an entry for the upcoming G3 Munster Oaks Stakes.
The sire of more than 70 stakes horses (his progeny have already earned over $39 000 000 in prize money), Duke Of Marmalade has ten yearlings on offer at this year’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, including a half-brother (Lot 22) to the G1 winners Afrikaburn and Kasimir, and a colt (Lot 351) out of dual G1 winning Equus Champion Rat Burana.
