Sunday treble for Gimmethegreenlight

11th Dec 2017

Varsfontein Stud’s leading young stallion Gimmethegreenlight’s good run of form continued at Greyville on Sunday when he was represented by a treble of winners.

Surcharge

First Gimmethegreenlight to score was the Dean Kannemeyer trained Cossack Guard who romped home to a 1.25 length maiden win, as favourite, over 1200 metres.

Just two races later, Gimmethegreenlight filly Green Fairy made it a quick double for her sire when running out a comfortable 1.75 length win over 2000m for trainer Duncan Howells and jockey Anton Marcus. Bred by Varsfontein Stud, the consistent 3yo filly (she has won or placed in six of her eight outings) was a R100 000 buy from the 2016 National Sale.

Former BSA Million Mile winner Legend got back in the winners enclosure when gritting out a neck win in the sixth race, a MR 94 handicap over1600m, to give his trainer, Duncan Howells, a second Gimmethegreenlight winner on the card.
Also bred by Varsfontein Stud, Legend took his earnings to over R700 000 with his latest success.

His L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winning sire Gimmethegreenlight is enjoying another memorable season thus far, with his recent winners including Listed Secretariat Stakes hero and Gauteng classic hope Surcharge.

The son of More Than Ready (recently represented by his 178th stakes winner) has 14yearlings on January’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
