Super Saturday for Vercingetorix

26th Jan 2025

Maine Chance Farms’ star sire Vercingetorix was the toast of Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
Not only did the champion son of Silvano come up with three winners on World Sports Betting Cape Town Met day, but Vercingetorix supplied runner-up finishers in three Grade One races on Saturday.
Vercingetorix’s recent G1 Cartier Paddock Stakes winning daughter Double Grand Slam finished a close second in the G1 Maine Chance Farms Majorca Stakes, his G1 Mercury Sprint winning son Surjay finished second in Saturday’s G1 HKJC World Pool Cape Flying Championship, and his G1 Hollywoodbets Durban July winning son Oriental Charm filled the runner up berth in the G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met itself.
The red-hot Vercingetorix also came up with his 48th and 49th stakes winners on Saturday, with his daughter I’m So Pritti landing the Listed SABC Olympic Duel Stakes (1200m) and son Zeitz victorious in the G3 City Of Cape Town Politician Stakes (1800m) on the same day.
Remarkably, Vercingetorix sons Zeitz, Garrix and Native Ruler finished first, second and third in the 2025 Politician Stakes, giving their sire yet another clean sweep on Saturday. The Andre Nel trained Zeitz, a full-brother to 2024 G3 Politician Stakes runner-up The Grey King, picked up his biggest win to date when he stormed home to claim the Politician Stakes by an emphatic two and three-quarter lengths.
Ridden by Serino Moodley, the Maine Chance Farms bred Zeitz has won twice from six starts, with the colt victorious in two of his last three.
Zeitz, out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Zappy Choice, was a R625 000 buy from the 2023 National Yearling Sale.
Vercingetorix pulled off yet another fine feat when his sons Let It Be Said, The Grey King, Lightning Glow and Rosh Kedesh finished 1-2-3-4 in Saturday’s Winx Class 3 (1400m).
Progressive three-year-old Let It Be Said caught the eye when romping home to score by a length and three quarters and he looks to be another bright hope for his sire.
Bred by Millstream Farm, the gelding is out of the Dalakhani mare Tawakul.
His sensational sire also dominated proceedings at last week’s Summer Sale, where Vercingetorix supplied both the R2 200 000 sales topping colt and the R2 000 000 top-priced filly.
