Mauritzfontein’s successful resident stallion Ideal World had another good weekend this week, with daughters Vistula and Saragon finishing second and fourth respectively in Saturday’s G1 HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes (1600m) and son Rainbow Bridge landing Sunday’s G1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge (1600m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, five-year-old Rainbow Bridge made amends for his third place effort in the Gold Challenge with a fluent win in Sunday’s G1 feature.
The Eric Sands went out to make the running, and duly did so, under jockey Warren Kennedy, to record a comfortable 0.9 of a length, while holding off both G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner Vardy and dual Vodacom Durban July winner Do It Again.
Rainbow Bridge, who has now earned R6 308 125 in prize money, has now won eight of just 16 starts, with the gelding’s previous wins including both the G1 Sun Met and G1 Champions Cup in 219.
His Prix Pelleas winning sire Ideal World went close to enjoying a G1 double over the weekend with the sire’s G2 Joburg Spring F&M Challenge winning daughter Vistula beaten just a length when second in the G1 Empress Club Stakes at Turffontein.
Sire of 40 stakes horses, and counting, Ideal World has eight lots on offer at this year’s National Sale.
