Varsfontein Stud’s inform stallion Gimmethegreenlight looked to have a strong hand in Sunday’s Listed Gatecrasher Stakes brought to you by Bollywood (1400m) and so it proved, with the former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner’s son Gold Season landing the 2020 Gatecrasher Stakes in smart fashion.
Trained by Ashley Fortune, Gold Season had been fourth on his only previous start but defied his inexperience by landing Sunday’s Listed feature in fine style.
Gold Season, who was ridden to victory by Craig Zackey, hit the front when running on strongly down the inside and went away to post a 1.7 length win over tote favourite Master Of Design.
Out of the Rich Man’s Gold mare Miss Gold Digger, Gold Season was a R375 000 buy from the 2019 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
The colt is the third consecutive son of Gimmethegreenlight in as many years to win the Gatecrasher Stakes, with Barahin victorious in 2018 and Kaydens Pride having prevailed the following year.
Gold Season is Gimmethegreenlight’s 25th stakes winner, and his ninth two-year-old winner for 2019-2020.
Currently South Africa’s third leading sire by stakes money (his progeny have banked over R9.166 million this season), Gimmethegreenlight has 35 yearlings on offer at this year’s National Yearling Sale- including Splash Of Green (Lot 283) –a full-sister to Gold Season!
