Bred by South Africa’s reigning champion breeders Klawervlei Stud, the four-year-old filly was given a fine front running ride by Lyle Hewitson, who kept his mount going to win a good race for trainer Brian Wiid.

In landing the 1600m handicap for fillies and mares, Emily Jay made it three wins in a row, and won her fourth victory in total.

Out of the Western Winter mare West To East, Emily Jay was a bargain R45 000 buy from the 2015 Klawervlei Farm Sale.

Emily Jay, who has won or placed in 11 of her 15 outings, has proved a great buy- having already earned over R300 000 and she won’t stop here.

Her sire Jay Peg is enjoying another good season, with his runners including G2 World Sports Betting Cape Merchants winner Silicone Valley and Listed Fairview Wines Sophomore Sprint third Woljayrine. Another daughter of Jay Peg, Veeipee Club won the recent Aloe Handicap at Fairview.

The former Equus Champion and multiple G1 winner has a single lot on this weekend’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale –a three-parts sister to G1 SA Classic winner English Garden (Lot 124).

Jay Peg, also sire of such graded stakes winners as Exit Here, Hot Affair, Flash Drive and Olympic Owen, also has three lots on next month’s BSA Cape Yearling Sale.
