Three winners in three days for Philanthropist

27th Feb 2018

Drakenstein Stud’s highly successful sire Philanthropist has been the toast of South Africa of late, thanks to the deeds of his son Singapore Sling, winner of the recent Hong Kong Classic Cup.
The strapping son of Kris S also enjoyed a good spell over the past three days, with Philanthropist represented by a treble of winning fillies.

Singapore Sling

First of the Philanthropist trio to win was the Drakenstein Stud bred Looking At Stars, who broke her maiden impressively for trainer Brett Crawford at Kenilworth on Saturday. The blue blooded filly clearly relished the step up to 2000m, with the 3yo filly drawing clear to post a one and a half length win.

Second Philanthropist winner over the past three days came when the Louis Goosen trained Live In Love, making just her third career outing, broke her maiden over 2000m in courageous fashion at Greyville on Sunday.  Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the 3yo filly, sent off a red-hot 8-10 favourite, dug down deep to win by a short head. It was another 4.55 lengths back to third place finisher Roy’s Flute. Live In Love, who is out of the Strike Smartly mare Cuir De Russie, was a R150 000 buy from the 2016 National Yearling Sale.

The Philanthropist treble was completed when Sazerac won by a whopping ten and a half lengths on Monday. Third at her previous outing, the four-year-old sports an interesting pedigree, as she is out of Cocktail Party- a daughter of Philanthropist’s close relative National Assembly.

She’s A Giver

A half-brother to Triple Crown hopeful Bail Out, as well as to the graded winning sires Defer and Reload, Philanthropist has a number of smart representatives in South Africa this year, headed by G3 Starling Stakes winner She’s A Giver and G1 Investec Cape Derby third Pack Leader.

The son of Kris S has 14 lots on the 2018 April Yearling Sale and a further 16 yearlings on this year’s National Sale.
