Thursday double for Great Britain

28th Jul 2017

Southford Stud’s in-form sire Great Britain has enjoyed a tremendous season in 2016-2017 and the blue blooded son of Green Desert was at it again at the Vaal on Thursday.

Green Desert -sire of Great Britain

Great Britain’s first Thursday winner came when his son Time To Be Great picked up his second career win when  causing a 14-1 shock over 1600m.
Bred by the Equus Stud, Time To Be Great was produced by the unplaced Johannesburg mare Chestnut Times.

Time To Be Great’s win was immediately followed by that of another Great Britain, when the Riverton Stud bred 3yo Plum British romped to a two and a half length win, over a mile, under 61 kgs. The Paul Peter trained gelding has now won two in a row, and three races in total.

A full-brother to deceased outstanding sire Cape Cross, Great Britain’s top class, KZN Yearling Sale Million winning son Al Mariachi, one of five 2yo winners for his sire this season, looks a big runner in Sunday’s G3 Avontuur Umkhomazi Stakes this weekend.

Sire of recent stakes winners Hashtag Strat and Wrecking Ball, Great Britain’s close relative and top-class sire Iffraaj, sire of 2017 G1 winners Jon Snow, Gingernuts and Ribchester, was recently represented by his 50th individual stakes winner.
