Successful sire and former Equus Champion Greys Inn enjoyed a memorable double at the Vaal on Thursday when his offspring won races one and five respectively.
First to score was Greys Inn’s 3yo daughter Ninjara, who obliterated her 12 rivals to score an eight and a quarter length maiden win over 1200m. The Lucky Houdalakis trained filly turned the race into a one horse affair, and Ninjara should hopefully build on this first success.
Bred by the Cheveley Stud, the lightly raced Ninjara (one of two winners on the card for jockey S’Manga Khumalo) was a bargain R15 000 buy from last year’s Sibaya KZN Yearling Sale.
Her paternal half-brother Inn A Million, an unlucky loser of his last start, provided Greys Inn with a notable double when romping home to score a convincing 1.9 length win over 2000m.
Bred by David Southey, the consistent Inn A Million, a 21-20 favourite for Thursday’s contest, has won or placed in nine of his 11 outings to date.
Greys Inn, whose close relative Pariah currently ranks as one of the leading 3yos in Australia and who is a favourite for the $1 million Golden Rose due to be run on September 23rd, is best known as the sire of dual Horse Of The Year and six time G1 winner Legal Eagle.
Other notables sired by the former G1 Vodacom Durban July winner include the G1 winners King Of Pain and Royal Bencher as well as short-lived Dubai star Forries Waltz.
