Thursday double for LQP winner

24th Nov 2017

Varsfontein Stud’s leading young sire Gimmethegreenlight has been enjoying a steady stream of winners this season and the former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner was at it again on Thursday.
The son of More Than Ready had a notable double at the Vaal racecourse, with sons Flight School and Cash Time winning their respective races.

The well related Flight School, bred by the Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, got off the mark at the fourth time of asking when powering home to score a 1.2 length win over 1500m.
The three-year-old, who fetched R400 000 at the 2016 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, is out of  Walkingonthemoon-a Galileo half-sister to champion and G1 Dubai Sheema Classic winner Sun Classique.

Gimmethegreenlight’s second win on Thursday came when Cash Time won for trainer Gary Alexander and jockey Piere Strydom over 2000 metres. Also bred by Hemel ‘n Aarde, Cash Time has now won two of only six starts and contested the R2 500 000 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Cup last time out.

A former Leading First Crop Sire, Gimmethegreenlight made a flying start to his stud career, with no fewer than six stakes winners in his first crop of runners.
His first crop stakes winners included four graded stakes winners, notably G2 Daisy Fillies Guineas winner Gimme Six and G1 Premiers Champion Stakes hero Gunner.
Gimmethegreenlight’s second crop, now 3yos, include G2 SA Fillies Nursery winner Green Plains and big race hopes Rose In Bloom and Witch Of The West. The former is a runner in the upcoming G1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas, while the latter contests Saturday’s G3 Hi-Fi Corporation Fillies Mile at Turffontein.
