Ridgemont’s star stallion Rafeef had a good day on Thursday. Not only did the son of Redoute’s Choice come up with a pair of winners at the Turffontein, but Rafeef also made his mark in the sales ring.
His first success came on Thursday when his three-year-old son Espinoza won the third race at Turffontein.
The Shaylen Naidoo trained gelding, under an enterprising ride from Ryan Munger, made all before clearing away to win by four lengths.
Bred by Riethuiskraal Stud, Espinoza, who was making his sixth start on Thursday, is out of the Visionaire mare Mulher De Branco.
Rafeef is also the sire of Heavyliesthecrown, who made a winning debut when victorious in the fourth race on Thursday.
Under a front-running ride by S’Manga Khumalo, the Johan Janse Van Vuuren-trained three-year-old stayed on to post a three-length win.
Bred by Patricia Devine Investments (Pty) Ltd, Heavyliesthecrown is out of the Jet Master mare Princess Ofthe Sky.
Her inform sire Rafeef also made waves at the first day of the Premier Yearling Sale. Rafeef had a filly (Lot 137) make R1 200 000 at Thursday’s auction.
Consigned by Klawervlei Stud, as Agent, the filly was knocked down to Jonathan Snaith.
The G1 Computaform Sprint winning Rafeef recently had a feature race double with his son William Robertson victorious in the G3 TAB J J The Jet Plane Stakes and daughter Glastonbury landing the Listed Wilgerbosdrift Ruffian Stakes on the same card.
