Trippi filly impresses on debut

18th Sep 2017

Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Trippi, who topped the general sires list in 2015-2016, had an eye catching debut winner at Scottsville on Sunday.

His daughter Salimah, bred by Wilgerbosdrift& Mauritzfontein, provided trainer Dennis Drier with one of five winners on the card when bolting home up to win first time out over 1000 metres.

Salimah, confidently ridden by jockey Sean Veale, was backed down to start a 13-10 favourite and she duly turned the race into a horse-race affair, putting 3.75 lengths between herself and the runner up.

A full-sister to G1 SA Nursery runner up Ziparana, Salimah, who was produced by the unplaced Doyoun mare Zanakiya, was a R450 000 purchase from the 2016 National Yearling Sale.

Her champion sire Trippi is certainly no stranger to siring high-class fillies, with his notable daughters including five time G1 winner Inara (who won G1 races in three different provinces), G1 Spinaway Stakes winner R Heat Lightning, Equus Champion and millionaire Hammie’s Hooker, G1 winning sprinter Real Princess, and Golden Slipper heroine For The Lads.

Trippi, whose multiple graded stakes winning daughter Live Life has earned over R4.5 million, is also making his mark as a broodmare sire, with his daughters having produced the likes of Breeders’ Cup winning sire Liam’s Map, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile second and sire Not This Time, Derby hero Multiplier, multiple stakes winner Miss Sunset and the undefeated 2yo stakes winner Aveenu Malcainu.
