Drakenstein Stud’s champion resident sire Trippi looks to have a potentially top-class two-year-old filly on his hands in the form of Lesedi La Rona.
The latter maintained her unbeaten record when prevailing in a finish to land Sunday’s Listed Perfect Promise Sprint at Kenilworth for owner-breeder Drakenstein Stud and trainer Candice Bass-Robinson.
Lesedi La Rona, who had downed Duke Of Marmalade’s smart winner Santa Clara when victorious on debut, dug down deep to beat favourite Nous Voila in Sunday’s R125 000 feature.
Now unbeaten in two starts, Lesedi La Rona is out of the stakes placed Western Winter mare Barberton Daisy and is thus bred on the same Trippi/Western Winter cross as recently exported G1 SA Classic winner Lobo’s Legend.
She is the 70th stakes winner for Trippi, whose progeny have earned in excess of $59 000 000 -and counting!
Trippi enjoyed a memorable weekend with his two-year-olds this past week, with his promising son Chimichuri Run catching the eye when finishing third in the G2 SA Nursery at Turffontein on Saturday.
Lesedi La Rona is the second daughter of Trippi to win the Perfect Promise Sprint, with the Trippi sired Equus Champion Hammie’s Hooker having prevailed in 2012. Another star Trippi filly, Live Life, ran second in the 2016 Listed Perfect Promise Sprint before going on to win both the G2 Cartier Sceptre Stakes and CTS Sprint.
Champion Sire in South Africa in 2015-2016, Trippi is enjoying another stellar season this year, with his notable runners including the above mentioned pair of Lobo’s Legend and Lesedi La Rona, Cape Guineas second White River, as well as Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes winner and millionaire Miss Katalin.
