Trippi grandson heads for Preakness

11th May 2017

Drakenstein Stud’s champion sire Trippi, whose son Deo Juvente captured Saturday’s G1 Premier’s Champions Challenge, could be represented by a starter, as a broodmare sire, in the classic G1 Preakness Stakes of 2017.

Trippi grandson Multiplier (by The Factor), looks a likely starter in the 1900m contest, with trainer Brendan Walsh electing to make a jockey change for the Preakness. Multiplier now gets the services of Joel Rosario, whose mounts have twice finished runner up in the Preakness Stakes.
The lightly raced Multiplier has won two of four starts to date, including the G3 Illinois Derby.

He is out of the Trippi mare Trippi Street, a lightly raced dual winner who was runner up in the 2005 G3 Pocahontas Stakes.

The Preakness Stakes, and second leg of the US Triple Crown, will be run at Pimlico Racecourse on May 20th.

Trippi was once again in the news recently as a broodmare sire when Miss Sunset (out of the Trippi mare Tuscan Sunset) picked up her fourth win, from just seven starts, in the recent Campanile Stakes at Golden Gate.

Miss Sunset, a daughter of Into Mischief, is now a triple stakes winner, with her previous black type wins including the Generous Portion Stakes (at 2) and the Sweet Life Stakes.
