Trippi mare shines at Keeneland

11th Sep 2018

Drakenstein Stud’s champion resident sire Trippi is enjoying increasing success as a broodmare sire, with his daughters at stud including a truly exceptional producer in the form of Miss Macy Sue.

Tapit-Miss Macy Sue filly

The latter, a top class racemare in her own right, was once again in the news at the opening session of the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale on Monday.
Miss Macy Sue was responsible for the top filly (Lot 203 ) sold on the opening day of the  marathon September sale when her Taylor Made Sales Agency (Agent) consigned Tapit daughter was knocked down to Don Alberto Corporation for $1.4 million –making her the top lot sold overall on Monday.

Taylor Made’s Duncan Taylor said of the filly, ““She is one of the best fillies we have ever raised. “It may look like a lot of money, but with that pedigree she could produce million-dollar yearlings every year. I think the buyers made a great buy.”

The Tapit filly is a half-sister to three black type winners, headed by G1 Woodward Stakes/G1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile hero Liam’s Map and 8.75 length G3 Iroquois Stakes hero Not This Time (also second in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile).

Miss Macy Sue, whose granddaughter Virginia Eloise (by Curlin) ran second in the 2018 G2 Adirondack Stakes, is also dam of the useful Taylor S –winner of the Any Limit Stakes and third in the G2 Forward Gal Stakes. Remarkably, all of her black type winners are sired by different stallions.

Liam’s Map

Both Liam’s Map and Not This Time are now standing at stud.

Miss Macy Sue (one of 72 stakes winners sired by Trippi) herself won 11 races and earned more than $867 000 in stakes. Her six black type wins include the G3 Winning Colors Stakes and she also ran in the 2007 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (where she beat multiple G1 winner Dream Rush and outstanding producer La Traviata).

Trippi has made a blistering start to the 2018-2019 season with his early winners including the impressive G3 Spring Spree Stakes winner Chimichuri Run.
