The eight times champion sire of 2yos was at it again at the Vaal on Tuesday when Captain Al was represented by a winning treble.
His trio of winners included the impressive looking Captain Kangaroo, one of the first 2yos to win in open company this season.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein, Captain Kangaroo ran on strongly to repel the challenge of first timer Pillaroftheearth and score for trainer Roy Magner and owners Mr and Miss Van Bassen on just his second racecourse appearance.
He is the sixth juvenile winner for Captain Al this season, with his sire’s other notable 2yo winners in 2016-2017 including the above mentioned feature race winner Call To Account.
Second of the Captain Al runners to score yesterday was the promising 3yo Whosethebossnow, who defied top weight of 60.5kgs to win for trainer Geoff Woodruff and owner Tony Moodley. Bred by Zandvliet Stud, Whosethebossnow has now won twice from his last four outings and he won’t stop here! He was a R300 000 buy from the 2015 March Yearling Sale.
Champion trainer Sean Tarry, whose charges include Captain Al’s outstanding daughter Carry On Alice, saddled the third of Captain Al’s Tuesday winners, when Chris Van Niekerk’s Magicality justified favouritism to win the seventh race. Bred by the Nutfield Stud, Magicality was a R425 000 buy from the 2015 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Captain Al has 11 lots on next week’s Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale, with his draft including yearlings out of G1 winners Nania and Roxanne, an own brother to champion Always In Charge and recent British winner Captain Lars, and a full sister to impressive recent winner Al Danza.
