Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s top class sire Var looks to have another exciting prospect on his hands in the form of Croisette.
The latter, owned and bred by Varsfontein Stud, stamped herself a filly to watch when she romped home to a four and a half length debut win, when scoring over 1000m on Tuesday.
Trained, like Var’s champion daughter Val De Ra, by Dennis Drier, Croisette was steered home to victory by jockey Sean Veale.
Sent off an 8-11 tote favourite for Tuesday’s race, Croisette had been second in a barrier trial on her only previous racecourse outing.
Out of the Windrush mare Sunsational, the three-year-old is bred on the same Var/Windrush cross as G2 The Debutante winner A Womens Way.
Twice Leading Sire of 2Yos in South Africa, and sire of more than 90 stakes horses thus far, Var is set to be represented by two daughters in Saturday’s Listed Gardenia Stakes (Ilha Da Varlette, Nawaasi) and by Casual Diamond in the same day’s Listed Laisserfaire Stakes.
Var has four lots on offer at this month’s CTS Ready To Run Sale.
