Var filly maintains her unbeaten record

5th Feb 2018

Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s prominent sire Var, who was Champion  Sire of 2YOs in South Africa last season, looks to have, yet again, a smart two-year-old to his credit.

Purple Diamond

His juvenile daughter Val-La-Ree made it two wins from as many outings when she romped to score a 3.75 length win in a juvenile plate over 1000m at Scottsville on Sunday.
Bred by Hallmark Thoroughbreds, Val-La-Ree, who had won on debut by four lengths, has now won both her outings by 7.75 lengths and looks well above average.
The Doug Campbell trained filly was a R150 000 buy from the 2017 KZN Yearling Sale.

Val-La-Ree is the third juvenile winner this season for Var, also sire previously of the high class juveniles Villandry (G1 Gold Medallion), Twitter (G3 Godolphin Barb), Purple Diamond (G2 Golden Horseshoe),  Varallo (2nd G1 Gold Medallion),  A Womens Way (G2 The Debutante) and Exquisite Touch (Ruffian Stakes).

Var

Var, also damsire of Saturday’s eye catching winner She’s A Giver, had two winners this past weekend, with his Dr Ian Heyns bred daughter Star Burst Galaxy landing a pinnacle stakes, over 1000m, at Fairview on Friday by 2.75 lengths. Now a six time winner, former Listed Breeders Guineas runner up Star Burst Galaxy has been remarkably consistent during her career –the four-year-old having won or placed in 18 of her 19 outings and her earnings now stand just shy of R500 000.

The son of Forest Wildcat also has some smart 3yos this season, including the very impressive Talk Of The Town who has won his last three races on the trot, and Speedpoint, winner of the Need For Speed Sprint.
