Vercingetorix colt impresses on debut

3rd Apr 2025

Maine Chance Farms’ outstanding sire Vercingetorix has had a wonderful season in 2024-2025, and the champion son of Silvano struck again at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Wednesday.
His two-year-old son I’m A Fireball made the perfect start to his racing career when he made a winning debut over 1000m.
Trained by Mathew and Mike De Kock, the regally bred I’m A Fireball raced just off the pace early in Wednesday’s Gallop TV Maiden Juvenile Plate.
Kabelo Matsunyane bought his charge with a sustained late, which saw I’m A Fireball hit the front close home and draw off to win by a length and a half.
Bred, like his sire, by Klawervlei Stud, I’m A Fireball is out of the top-class Rock Of Gibraltar mare Gibraltar Blue.
The colt was a R1 000 000 buy from the 2024 National Yearling Sale.
I’m A Fireball is the third two-year-old winner this season for Vercingetorix, South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2024-2025.
Vercingetorix, whose yearlings have made up to R9 000 000 in 2025, has been responsible for 14 black type winners this season, and his offspring have already earned more than R22.476 million in stakes.
The former Equus Champion has an excellent draft on offer at the upcoming National Sale, including a colt (Lot 28) out of champion Bela-Bela, a half-sister (Lot49) to former Horse Of The Year Captain’s Ransom, and a filly (Lot122) out of a G2 winning daughter of Montjeu.
