Maine Chance Farms’ outstanding stallion Vercingetorix was the star of the show on the first day of the Premier Yearling Sale.
At Thursday’s session of the Premier Sale, Vercingetorix ended the day as Leading Sire by Aggregate, with the son of Silvano responsible for 22 yearlings who fetched R36.55 million.
Remarkably, Vercingetorix’s yearlings averaged no less than R1 661 364 million at Thursday’s auction.
Vercingetorix is also the sire of Wreath Of Snow (Lot 85) who equalled the South African record when knocked down to Greg Bortz for R9 000 000 at the Premier Sale.
Consigned to the sale by Drakenstein Stud, and a half-brother to G1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas winner Snow Pilot, the regally bred Wreath Of Snow is out of the Captain Al sired dual G1 winner Snowdance.
Vercingetorix was also responsible for the top-priced filly (Lot 97) sold on Thursday. Consigned by Klawervlei Stud, as Agent, the filly, out of Snowdance’s G1 Allan Robertson Championship-winning relative The Secret Is Out, was sold to Daryll Yutar for R4.1 million.
In total, Vercingetorix had five lots fetch R2 000 000 or more at the Premier Yearling Sale, with the star stallion responsible for the top five yearlings sold on Thursday.
South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2024-2025, Vercingetorix has been responsible for 13 black-type winners in South Africa this season, with his offspring having already earned more than R20.381 million.
