Vercingetorix filly lands Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas

2nd Feb 2025

Maine Chance Farms’ star sire Vercingetorix came up with yet another big-race winner when his unbeaten daughter Spumante Dolce won the G2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas at Turffontein on Saturday.
A three-part sister to July-winning champion Sparkling Water, Spumante Dolce made it three out of three with a smart performance on Saturday.

Under a great ride from Raymond Danielson, the Vercingetorix filly kept going strongly to account for G1 winners VJ’s Angel and Quid Pro Quo by a neck and half a length respectively.
She has now won three times from as many three starts, with Spumante Dolce having followed up a debut win with a sparkling three and a half length triumph at Turffontein prior to Saturday’s victory.
Trained by Mike and Mathew De Kock, Spumante Dolce is the 51st stakes winner for her sire.
Out of G2 Betting World 1900/G2 Ipi Tombe Challenge winner Espumanti (by Dansili), Spumante Dolce is a three-parts sister to both champion Sparkling Water and the smart Champagne Cocktail.
The 2025 G2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas winner was bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein.
Vercingetorix went close to having another big race double, with his G3 Betway Got The Greenlight Stakes winning son Greaterix finishing second, beaten less than half a length, in Saturday’s G2 TAB Gauteng Guineas.
The Maine Chance Farms’ resident had two more winners on Saturday, with his four-year-old daughter Callmegetrix landing The Clapham Stakes at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth, and his two-year-old daughter Elegantrix making a winning debut at Turffontein on the same day.
Trained by Candice Bass-Robinson, the consistent Callmegetrix showed plenty of courage when fighting back to land The Clapham Stakes by a head, with the Rathmor Stud-bred filly taking her tally of wins to four in the process.
Exciting two-year-old Elegantrix stamped herself as a filly to follow when she won the Cecil Mthembu Honorary Maiden Juvenile Plate (1160m) in style. Under an inform Ryan Munger, the Corne Spies trained filly bolted home to win as she liked by two and three-quarter lengths.
Out of the Danehill Dancer mare Elegantes, the Greenacres Trust and Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud bred filly was an R850 000 purchase from the 2024 August Two Year Old Sale.
Vercingetorix’s big day on Saturday follows a tremendous run of success on World Sports Betting Cape Town Met day, where Vercingetorix came up with a trio of winners and a trio of runner-up finishers in G1 features.
Currently, on top of the South African General Sires premiership, champion Vercingetorix also made headlines at the recent Summer Sale. Not only was Vercingetorix the Leading Sire by both Aggregate and Average at that sale, but the son of Silvano was responsible for both the top-priced colt and filly sold on the day.
