Maine Chance Farms’ exciting young sire Vercingetorix has made a superb start to the 2019-2020 racing season, and the multiple G1 winning son of Maine Chance’s multiple champion sire Silvano had another good weekend this past week.
Vercingetorix’s 3yo son Ikigai, a member of his sire’s outstanding first crop, made an eye catching winning debut at Turffontein on Saturday.
Dispatched the 6-10 tote favourite, the Sean Tarry trained Ikigai was outpaced and green early on, before powering home late on and going on to win by a length and three quarters.
Bred, like his sire Vercingetorix, by Klawervlei Stud, Ikigai is out of the Al Mufti mare Al Shiba and is thus bred on a similar cross to the Silvano sired G1 winners Al Sahem, Bold Silvano, and Kings Gambit.
Ikigai is the 21st winner to have emerged from Vercingetorix’s first crop, also responsible for G2 Haval Motors South Africa Umkhomazi Stakes winner African Warrior, East Cape champion and Dahlia Plate hero Hooves Of Troy, G3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery second Fearless Warrior and unbeaten East Cape Nursery winner Viking Moon.
Another smart performer to have emerged from Vercingetorix’s first crop is Prince Of Venice, with the latter making it two wins from just three starts when victorious over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.
