Maine Chance Farms’ resident sire Silvano had a notable double at Durbanville on Wednesday, with the triple G1 winning son of Lomitas and his progeny taking centre stage at the Country Course.
First of the Silvano runners to score was the Normandy Stud bred Sugerpova, with that lightly raced 3yo picking up her second win, from just six outings, for trainer Joey Ramsden and jockey Aldo Domeyer.
Sugerpova, who had contested the Listed Highlands Stud Irridescence Stakes on her final start at two, showed plenty of courage when digging down deep to win Wednesday’s third race (a FM 72 handicap over 1000m) to hold off a late flying Dream Dancer and score by a head.
Out of the Sportsworld mare Centre Court, Sugerpova is bred on the same Silvano/Sportsworld cross as Equus Champion Hot Ticket and millionaire Bulsara.
The three-year-old was a R600 000 buy from the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Silvano’s second winner at Durbanville on Wednesday came when his talented son Silver Maple made it win number three, from just four outings, when victorious in the day’s seventh race, a MR 85 handicap over 1600 metres.
Bred by Maine Chance Farms, the lightly raced four-year-old defied top weight of 60kgs to justify favouritism by half a length. A full-brother to G2 Zabeel Mile hero Janoobi and G3 Champion Juvenile Cup hero Sedge, Silver Maple has now won or placed in each of his four outings and he looks smart.
Out of the Rakeen mare Shasta Daisy, Silver Maple was a R1 000 000 buy from the 2016 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Another son of Silvano, Earl Of Warwick, finished second on Wednesday, when beaten a half length in the fifth race.
Triple Champion South African sire Silvano has two lots on offer at the 2018 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale, and three lots on sale at the 2018 CTS Ready To Run Sale.
