What A Winter to make a splash at KZN Sale

15th Jun 2017

The progeny of triple Equus Champion What A Winter have been making waves all over the country this season, with the son of Western Winter featuring prominently on both the racetrack and in the sales ring.

Lot 57

Currently South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire, What A Winter  already has three impressive first crop stakes winners to his name –including G3 Cape Nursery winner Dutch Philip and unbeaten Kenilworth Fillies Nursery winner Magical Wonderland.
The four-time G1 winner has been massively popular in sales rings around South Africa in 2017, when What A Winter yearlings have fetched up to R2.8 million.

Boland Stud (as Agent), are proud to offer a What A Winter filly (Lot 57) at the 2017 KZN Yearling Sale.
This filly, closely inbred to the great stallion Mr Prospector, is a half-sister to a four time winner, and her dam’s three winning siblings including talented G3 performer and winner of eight, S’il Vous Plait.

Her second dam is a winning daughter of French Derby winner Darshaan, one of the finest broodmare sires in recent decades and damsire of numerous classic/G1 winners including English Derby winners High Chaparral and Pour Moi (sire of 2017 Investec Derby winner Wings Of Eagles).

Captain America

This classically bred filly is a direct descendant of the tap root mare Queen Of Light, a potent source of numerous top class performers including classic winners Royal Palace (2000 Guineas, Derby), Desert Prince (Irish 2000 Guineas), Light Cavalry (St Leger) and Fairy Footsteps (1000 Guineas).

Queen Of Light is also ancestress of recent G1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge winner Captain America.
