Local mare’s Epsom connections
Klawervlei Stud’s beautifully bred mare Ebaraya is from one of the best families in the stud book – and her close relatives include fancied runners for both Friday’s Group 1 Investec Oaks and Saturday’s Group 1 Investec Derby.
A daughter of champion sire Sadler’s Wells, Ebaraya is out of the outstanding broodmare Ebaziya. The latter, a daughter of legendary broodmare sire Darshaan, is dam of four Group 1 winners – including Irish Oaks winner Ebadiyla (an own sister to Ebaraya) and the Gold Cup winners Enzeli and Estimate.
Current Investec Oaks favourite, Taghrooda (Sea The Stars), is another member of this outstanding family.
Unbeaten in two starts to date, Taghrooda (winner of the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes) is out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Ezima whose dam is a full-sister to Ebaziya. Taghrooda’s dam is thus a three parts sister to Ebaraya (Sadler’s Wells).
Ebanoran, who was disqualified after winning the Group 3 Derrinstown Derby Trial and placed second, is currently a 14-1 shot for Saturday’s Group 1 Investec Derby. A son of champion sprinter Oasis Dream, the blue blooded Ebanoran is out of the top-class racemare Ebadiyla (a full sister to Ebaraya). Ebadiyla was Ireland’s Champion Older Female, and won the Group 1 Irish Oaks, and scored a dead heat victory in the Group 1 Prix Royal Oak of 1997.
Ebaraya, whose Distorted Humor filly Estimation sold for R2.75 million at the 2014 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, is currently in foal to leading young sire Judpot.
She also has a Captain Al weanling colt – and Ebaraya is a mare whose pedigree page continues to go from strength to strength.
