Molly Pitcher win for Philanthropist relative

Money’sonCharlotte, who is from the same family as successful sire Philanthropist, made all the running to score a 1.25 length win in the G3 Molly Pitcher Stakes, run over 1700m at Monmouth Park on Sunday.

A daughter of Mizzen Mast,  Money’soncharlotte Money’soncharlotte jumped out to take the lead right away, skipping through a quick opening quarter in :23.78 but easing back a bit to cover the half mile in :47.82, a split of 24.04 seconds. She was pressured all the way around the oval by Miss Inclusive, with Carrumba in third at the rail and Power of Snunner alongside. Berhnik’s Bank made a mid-race move to come three wide and challenge for second. Eskenformoney had broken a half-step slowly and was at the rear of the field in the early going.

Lopez kept Money’soncharlotte in front by a length as Carrumba and Power of Snunner made their moves, and gave his mare her cue rounding the far turn. At the head of the lane Money’soncharlotte had a two-length advantage and she was powerful down the stretch, only threatened by the late run of Eskenformoney.
At the wire, it was Money’soncharlotte by 1.25 lengths, with the mare now unbeaten in three outings in 2017.

The 2017 Molly Pitcher Stakes winner has now five wins to her credit and banked more than $338 000 in stakes, with Sunday’s win being Money’soncharlotte’s first graded score. The five-year-old’s sixth dam is legendary broodmare Grey Flight, herself dam of nine stakes winners, and fourth dam of Philanthropist.

Philanthropist himself made headlines at Greyville on Saturday when he was represented by his sixth juvenile winner of the season. His daughter Colour Your Dreams, second and third respectively at her previous two outings, ran out a game winner over 1600m for trainer Dennis Drier, who also handles the sire’s smart daughters Sail and Tsessebe.

Bred by James Armitage, and closely inbred to Roberto, Colour Your Dreams was a R225 000 buy from last year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

She is the second 2yo winner in 3 days for her sire whose son Texas Sky won over 1400m earlier in the week.

Philanthropist’s other notable 2yo winners this season include the stakes fillies Outlander and Tsessbe, as well as G1 contender Pack Leader.

The son of Kris S has 12 lots on offer at the National Two Year Old Sale in August.
