Moutonshoek- breeders of recent Gr3 Umzimkhulu Stakes winner Eventual Angel as well as classy unbeaten juvenile Eros’s Girl-  have a tremendous draft on sale at next week’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

The farm will be offering 22 choicely bred yearlings at the National Sale, and the yearlings include lots by such leading South African sires as Captain Al, Silvano, Tiger Ridge and Western Winter, to name but a few.

The first Moutonshoek consigned lot on sale, is lot 55. A colt named Slinky Jack, he is a son of red-hot sire Black Minnaloushe, whose son, Louis The King, is bidding to win the SASCOC Triple Crown. Out of the high-class Gr3 winner Slinky Malinky, this well bred colt is a half-brother to two black type performers, and his third dam is US Champion, Revidere.

Next into the ring is lot 57, a filly going by the name of Hatfield Square. She is a daughter of Kingmambo’s blue blooded son Mambo In Seattle, and is from a wonderful female line. Her winning dam, by champion broodmare sire Fort Wood, is a half-sister to classic winner, and Gr1 producer, Studio Fifty Four, and this female line is packed with stakes winners.

Seven League Boots is the name of lot 65. This colt is a half-brother to feature race winner Star Jet, and is from a top-class South American female line. He is a son of resident sire Mambo In Seattle, a three parts brother to top US sire Lemon Drop Kid, and runner up in the Gr1 Travers Stakes of 2008.

Highly successful sire Tiger Ridge, is the sire of lot 157, a bay colt named Quantity. This well bred colt is out of a winning sister to multiple Gr1 winner Surveyor. Intensely inbred to the legendary Secretariat, this colt is from the family of US Gr1 winner and important sire, Lord At War.

Lot 161 is a beautifully bred filly (who has been named Lingerie) is a daughter of promising young sire Mambo In Seattle and top class stakes winning mare Alinga – a daughter of world leading sire Rock Of Gibraltar, whose offspring have really excelled in South Africa. The filly is from an outstanding family, and her relatives include the outstanding Australian performer, Naturalism.

Champion sire Western Winter, whose juveniles have been in devastating form this season, is the sire of lot 172. This colt, nicely named Icy Honour, is a half-brother to 4 winners – who between them have won 15 times. Out of a stakes placed Al Mufti mare, this colt’s relatives include top-class Gr1 winner Noble Heir (also a male line descendant of Mr Prospector).

Mambo In Seattle, whose first crop of 2yos have made a really pleasing start, is the sire of lot 176. This well bred colt, consigned by Moutonshoek, is out of the Gr3 mare Asian Affair – a three parts sister to champion Princess Victoria. The latter, a champion at two and three, won over R2 million during her career, and landed four Gr1 races. This colt has been named Seattle Prince.

South Atlantic, lot 178, is a filly from a wonderful family. A daughter of Horse Of The Year Horse Chestnut (whose first 3yos include the brilliant Chestnut’s Rocket), she is out of a stakes winning granddaughter of Machiavellian. This filly hails from the immediate family of champion sprinter Sheikh Albadou, as well as G1 Gold Cup hero Little Wolf – clearly this family can produce top winners over all distances!

Leading international sire Machiavellian’s half-brother, Mogok, is the sire of Bling Belle, a filly catalogued as lot 191. By the sire of outstanding filly Gypsy’s Warning (a Gr1 winner locally and in the US), this filly is a three parts sister to Gr1 winner Orbison (by Mogok).

The magnificent Mambo In Seattle (who is out of a full-sister to no less a sire than A P Indy) is the sire of lot 226. This nicely bred colt is out of the top-class Fort Wood mare Cinnamon Sugar, long remembered as the Queen Of The Sand. A stakes winner of 6, Queen Of The Sand is also a half-sister to Gr1 juvenile Greenacre.

Silvano, Champion Sire last season, is an outstanding sire. The son of Lomitas is the sire of lot 285, a bay filly named Silver Solitude. She is beautifully bred – being out of a Model Man half-sister to Gr1 Paddock Stakes heroine Emblem Of Liberty and is from the family of numerous US Gr1 winners. One for the notebook!

Kashmira is the name of lot 319, a daughter of top-class sire Trippi – whose daughters include the Gr1 fillies R Heat Lightning, For The Lads, Not Sulking and Hammie’s Hooker. She is a half-sister to 5 winners, including Gr1 performer Bulsara and stakes filly Gay Fortuna. Dam, La Deportista, was a top filly who won or placed in no fewer than nine feature races.

Next into the ring is lot 329, a son of five times champion 2yo sire Captain Al – whose sons include this season’s outstanding 3yo, Captain America. Like that high-class colt, this colt (named Eighth Wonder) is out of a Fort Wood mare. Eighth Wonder’s dam is an own sister to champion Monyela, and is very closely related to arguably the finest racehorse ever bred in South Africa – Horse Chestnut.

Lot 355 is a filly named Imperial Ice. A daughter of top sire Trippi (whose yearlings are always in demand), she is out of UAE Oaks winner Imperial Ice – a daughter of champion sire Western Winter. From the great Party Time family, this filly’s close relatives include this season’s Gr1 winning 3yo filly, In The Fast Lane.

Silvano, sire of lot 285, is also responsible for lot 403 – a bay colt named Virility. His dam, by champion sire Roy, is a winning own sister to a G3 winner in Argentina, whilst his second is the Gr1 winner Afrodite.

Lot 405 is a bay son of champion sire Captain Al and is a three parts brother to Gr1 winning juvenile Exhilaration. This is also the family of G1 winners Malteme and Wendywood.


A filly bred to be smart is lot 429 – a daughter of top sire, and G1 winning sprinter Trippi. Named Golden Highway, she is out of a stakes winning half-sister, by top speed sire Goldkeeper, to the Gr1 performer Sporting Boy.

Wonder Worker is the name of lot 441, a daughter of champion sire Western Winter. She is a half-sister to the smart stakes winner Thanks John, and hails from the family of champion filly, and Horse Of The Year, Roland’s Song.

Horse Chestnut was a magnificent racehorse, and he has sired stakes horses all over the world. A highly promising broodmare sire, he is also the sire of lot 446 – a filly named Sweet Chestnut. Sharing the name of a former Cape star, this filly is out of high-class stakes winner Miss Mischief (by top broodmare sire Qui Danzig).

Lot 463 is a filly by the name of Acrux. She is a daughter of Tiger Ridge – whose daughters include Equus Champion Cherry On The Top and millionaire Leah’s Secret.  Out of an Elliodor half-sister to four stakes horses, this filly is a half-sister to 3 winners, and hails from the family of legendary SA racemare, Renounce.

There should be plenty of interest in lot 509. He is a son of champion sire Silvano –whose son Vercingetorix lines up in the G1 QE II Cup at Sha Tin. Out of six time stakes placed mare, this colt is a half-brother to high-class 2yo Cotton Candy – who has been placed in two feature races this season, and looks well above average.

One of South Africa’s leading first crop sires, Mambo In Seattle, is the sire of 512, a filly named Eyetunes. Out of a Fort Wood full-sister to G1 performer Service Ace (and a half sister to Cape Guineas hero Flight Alert), this filly is a half-sister to Gr3 winning juvenile, Wheredowego.
