New Cape’s sire’s links to world leading stallions
Highlands Farm’s exciting young sire Jackson is one of the most exciting young stallion prospects around.
Jackson, who topped the 2010 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale when selling for R1 million, was an outstanding racehorse, who earned over R2.3 million on the track.
His three Grade 1 wins include a romp over dual Horse Of The Year Variety Club in the Gr1 Investec Cape Derby, as well as scores in the Gr1 Daily News 2000 (over July winner Pomodoro) and Gr1 Champions Cup.
Jackson is by outstanding sire Dynasty, who is currently South Africa’s leading active sire by prize money. The former Horse Of The Year is the sire of the winners of over R14 million this season alone, and has been represented by nine stakes winners during 2013-2014.
Dynasty, whose offspring have earned over R44 million to date, is the sire of 11 Grade 1 performers including 2014 Vodacom Durban July winner Legislate, Horse Of The Year Irish Flame and multiple champion Beach Beauty. He is also the sire of leading Cape 2yo Act Of War, who looks a classic prospect for the 2014-2015 season.
This is same male line as the world’s greatest stallion Galileo as well as North America’s Champion Sire of 2013, Kitten’s Joy.
Jackson is from a superb female line, and traces directly back to Canadian Hall of Fame member No Class.
However, it is Jackson’s broodmare sire, former Breeders Cup Mile winner Cozzene, who has been in the news of late. Champion sire in North America in 1996, Cozzene has enjoyed plenty of success as a sire, sire of sires, and broodmare sires.
Cozzene’s offspring include the Breeders Cup winners Alphabet Soup and Tikkanen, as well as multiple Gr1 winner, and top sire, Mizzen Mast.
He has also become a top broodmare sire, with his daughters having produced more than 70 stakes winners worldwide.
This tally includes Pivotal and Zebedee, two stallions who have been in the news during 2014. One of the world’s leading sires, Pivotal’s 100 plus stakes winners include the 2014 Gr1 Dubai World Cup winner African Story, as well as 24 other Gr1/Gp1 winners.
Brilliant 2yo Zebedee has made a smashing start to his stud career, with his first 2yos racing this season. The son of Invincible Spirit currently ranks as the UK’s leading first crop sire, by winners, and his first 2yos include brilliant Gp2 July Stakes winner Ivawood.
Interestingly, like Jackson, both Pivotal and Zebedee are by Northern Dancer line horses out of Cozzene mares.
However, Jackson’s connection to world leading sires does not end there. His fourth dam is No Class, widely regarded as one of the greatest broodmares of all time. Dam of five Grade 1 winners/champions, No Class’ runners include Champion Sky Classic, himself a highly successful stallion. A son of Nijinsky II, Sky Classic is the sire of more than 50 stakes winners, including Horse of the Year Thornfield, and he is also broodmare sire of 1000 Guineas winner Speciosa.
No Class is also the second dam of Smart Strike, a dual Champion Sire in North America. Sire of over 100 stakes winners, Smart Strike’s progeny include dual US Horse Of The Year and successful sire Curlin, as well as champions Lookin At Lucky, My Miss Aurelia, Soaring Free and Never Retreat.
Smart Strike is also the broodmare sire of Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird.
Safe to say, Jackson is a young stallion with a truly classic background!
