Nutfield’s blue blooded consignment
John and Beth Brandtner’s Nutfield Stud are offering some extremely well bred yearlings at the 2014 Cape Premier Yearling Sale (Book 1).
The farm, home to former Met winner Imperious Sue and her Grade One winning daughter Imperious Star, enjoyed fine success at the recent Cape Ready To Run Sale, where they sold a Dynasty filly for R900 000 and a Western Winter filly for R800 000.
Nutfield will be consigning eight yearlings on the farm’s behalf, and a further yearling as agent.
The first lot to pass through the ring is lot 76 a filly by Kahal (the only lot by KZN’s leading sire on sale). She is out of Escondida a winning Fort Wood daughter of former top filly Easyjadeeasy. The latter, in turn, is a half-sister to one of Fort Wood’s top sons – Equus Champion Elusive Fort. In other words, this Kahal filly is out of a three parts sister to Elusive Fort. From the famous “E” family, this filly has a powerful pedigree, and has already got considerable paddock value.
Lot 77 is a colt by last season’s Champion Sire Silvano – sire of such stars as Heavy Metal, Vercingetorix, and Martial Eagle. The colt, named Elusive Silva, is a half-brother to two winners, and his dam is a Fort Wood full sister to champion Elusive Fort, whose first crop race this season. This is the family of champions Ecurie, Empress Club and Eventuail.
Lot 92 is a daughter of Tiger Ridge (sire of champion filly Cherry On The Top). A half-sister to four winners, this bay has been christened Dearest Secret. Her siblings include the very talented Gr2 performer Sky Marshall, and dam, Gia’s Secret, is a stakes placed half-sister to G3 winner Honour And Glory. This is the family of uber speedy filly Noble Heir – winner of the Gr1 Computaform Sprint.
Lot 108 is a really nice, imposing daughter of ill-fated champion sire Western Winter. The latter has built up a tremendous record as a sire of fillies, with his daughters including such Gr1 winners as Covenant, Bad Girl Runs, Roxanne, Fair Maiden and Nania. Going by the name of Frosted Honey, the chestnut is a sister to three winners. She is out of a stakes placed three parts sister to French G2 winner Gunboat Diplomacy, and is from a world class female line.
There are few colts on sale which can boost a more impressive pedigree than lot 110. A son of the late, great Western Winter, this colt is out of former Equus Champion, and Gr1 J&B Met winner, Imperious Sue. A half-brother to Gr1 Woolavington Stakes winner Imperious Star, the colt’s dam is a half-sister to promising young sire Royal Air Force, and this is also the family of former Horse of the Year Victory Moon. This well bred colt shares his sire with the likes of champions Winter Solstice, Yard-Arm, Argonaut, Ice Cube, and Lady Windermere, as well as this season’s classic hopeful Red Ray.
Mama Loves Mambo, lot 154, is a son of first season sire Mambo In Seattle, an exceptionally well bred and well performed son of world leading sire Kingmambo. A three parts brother to leading sire and champion Lemon Drop Kid, Mambo In Seattle is from the family of sire legend, A P Indy. Mama Loves Mambo, who hails from a great female line, is a half-brother to the smart winner, Nordic Warrior. Out of a seven time winning daughter of champion broodmare sire Fort Wood, Mama Loves Mambo’s relatives include legendary sprint champion Flobayou.
Silvano, sire of last year’s Book One Sale topper, is the sire of lot 165, a striking bay colt. Out of the classy Rakeen mare Pewter, a stakes placed winner of six, the colt is from the famous Lily family, whose members include Gr1 stars Villandry, Fort Defiance, Bold Thatch, and Ravishing. This well bred colt’s third dam is the top-class racemare, Run For Lily.
The nicely named Cloud Racer is a son of Tiger Ridge – champion first crop sire both in Florida and South Africa. Consigned as lot 191, this imposing, scopey bay is a half-brother to three winners, one of whom won five. Out of a mare by leading broodmare sire Badger Land, the colt’s second dam is champion Cerulean Blue. Cloud Racer also hails from the family of champion, and promising young sire, Russian Sage.
Lot 177 is a colt, consigned by Nutfield as agent. A son of former Equus Champion and globetrotting sensation Jay Peg, the bay has been named Gary Jay. A full brother to a winner, the colt is out of the useful mare Rub A Dub Dub – a Jallad half-sister to 16 time winner World Focus. This colt, whose sire has made a very promising beginning, traces back to high-class sprinter Cash Gold – herself the dam of Shoe Shac – who conquered legendary sprinter Tommy Hotspur to win the Gr1 Computaform Sprint.
The Nutfield draft can be found in B and C blocks – and all visitors are most welcome.
