OLDLANDS STUD ANNOUNCES FRESH PROMOTIONAL ARRANGEMENTS
Follows the successful settling in of the MONTJEU horse STAGELIGHT
Oldlands Stud has announced the appointment of Allan Bloodlines to promote the business of the farm, particularly its consignments and stallions, with effect from 1st March following the successful settling in of the MONTJEU stallion STAGELIGHT during 2013. The tried and tested Allan methods will be brought into play as well as a makeover of the farm’s website during the next few weeks.
Established 46 years ago by Barbara Sanne and located since 1995 in the Hemel en Aarde region near Hermanus, Oldlands Stud has successfully blended a gentler near-the-ocean climate with a philosophy of individual attention leading to quality of life for the farm’s horses. Consistently averaging either side of 40% winners to runners, the stud is thus ranked with the leading breeders in that category.
“STAGELIGHT is a UAE Guineas winner but has been more or less hidden” commented David Allan. “We appreciate the chance of getting to grips with a son of the great MONTJEU already a sire of Gr1 sires. He will receive very thoughtful support at Oldlands plus mares from a core of breeders who recognise this unique opportunity”.
MONTJEU kept pace with GALILEO as the two great sons of SADLER’S WELLS. His death at 16 was devastating to Coolmore, losing the sire of the winners of 4 Epsom Derbies, 5 Coronation Cups, 4 Irish Derbies, an English Guineas and a Breeders Cup Turf in a total so far of 43 Gr1 winners. STAGELIGHT’s very existence in South Africa is drawing attention overseas – not surprising with the feats of MONTJEU’s Derby winning sons AUTHORIZED (siring 3 winners of 5 Gr1s in 2013 in England and Australia) and MOTIVATOR (2 Gr1 winners including the brilliant unbeaten Arc Winner TREVE).
“The Gone West line is one of many in South Africa that really suits STAGELIGHT whose progeny tend to speed” remarks Barbara Sanne. “All his 2013 mares are in foal and he covers enthusiastically”.
Meanwhile Oldlands’ stalwart INDIGO MAGIC will be highlighted more. The 775,000 guineas son of GONE WEST has sired winners of the Merchants and Gauteng Guineas both Gr2, Listed Sophomore Sprint, Lady Slipper and overall 55% winners to runners. His fresh crop of 2013 yearlings has been successfully sold into training with various trainers with results eagerly anticipated.
Mrs Sanne’s son Professor Ian Sanne of the University of Witwaterstrand, internationally eminent in his medical fields, is able to take a close interest in Oldland’s affairs as well as bringing his global expertise in disease control and regulation to very strong involvement in South Africa’s African Horse Sickness representations. This would not be the first Mother and Son combination to run an excellent breeding operation.
