Oldlands Stud’s select draft for 2016 CPYS

Barbara Sanne’s Oldlands Stud will offer a small but select group of yearlings at next week’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale, set to be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on January 21st and 22nd.

Oldlands are no strangers to enjoying marked success at the Cape’s biggest yearling sale –in 2015, the farm sold the sales’ second top priced lot –a Var colt named Moonrise Sensation, who was knocked down to British agent Amanda Skiffington for R4 000 000.

This year the farm which bred such notable performers as English Garden, Lucky Find, Cat And The Moon, Go Indigo, and the recently retired Astro News will be represented by two lots at the sale, and will also act as agent on a third.

First of the Oldlands draft to enter the ring is lot 196 –a really attractive daughter of champion sire and current log leader Silvano. The latter is responsible for numerous top class fillies, including this season’s G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas winner and leading CTS Million Dollar fancy Silver Mountain.
The bay, named Summer Moon, is a half sister to last year’s Var sired sensation, and also to top class filly Cat And The Moon, a multiple stakes winner whose earnings have already soared past half a million. This is the tremendous Let Kiss family, with this filly’s relatives including the likes of champion Kochka and the talented Oldlands Stud bred Dubai stakes winner Lucky Find.

Oldands are offering lot 199 as agent, and this colt is a son of Irish 2000 Guineas winner Black Minnaloushe. The latter has sired eight G1 winners to date, including Triple Crown winner and young sire Louis The King. Remarkably, to date, Black Minnaloushe has had three sons named official 2yo champions! The colt on sale, named Electro Cat, is bred on the same Black Minnaloushe/Indigo Magic cross which produced the above mentioned Cat And The Moon, and he is also out of a half sister to former G1 SA Classic winner English Garden (bred by Oldlands).

Leading sire Var is enjoying yet another tremendous season, and is currently South Africa’s Leading sire of 2yos. The sire of champions Variety Club, Val De Ra and Via Africa is also the sire of lot 237, a lovely filly by the name of Gold Kind. Bred on the same Var/Fort Wood cross as G1 winner Contador, this filly is out of a daughter of G2 SA Oaks winner Idle Fancy and from the family of major international G1 winners Colonial Affair, Declaration Of War and Union Rags –to name a few
