Outstanding young sire’s relative shines on Arc day
Karakontie, one of the stars to have emerged from Sunday’s Prix de L’Arc De Triomphe meeting, is closely related to one of South Africa’s most exceptional young sires.

Karakontie (a son of Storm Cat horse Bernstein) took top honours in Sunday’s Group One Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere to stamp himself a classic hope for 2014. Now the winner of three of his four starts, Karakontie had previously won the Group Three Prix La Rochette.
His third dam is the mighty Miesque, a multiple champion racemare – and dam of last season’s Equus Outstanding Stallion Judpot (A P Indy).

The latter, who sired two Grade One winners from his very first crop of 2yos, currently stands at Varsfontein Stud for a fee of R25 000.
