Pathfork leads first crop sires log

Highlands Farm’s well performed young sire Pathfork has made a fine start to his stud career. At the time of writing, the former Irish champion has had five first crop runners either win or finish in the money.
This bright start has seen Pathfork ascend to the top of South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sires Log.

The son of Distorted Humor’s early winners include such as Listed East Cape Nursery nominated Corker and smart debut winner South Side.

Pathfork’s positive start to his stud career comes as no surprise, however. An unbeaten champion at two, Pathfork won all three outings at three, culminating in a game win over subsequent G1 Racing Post Trophy winner in the G1 Boylesports.Com Vincent O’Brien National Stakes at the Curragh.

Back in third place came G1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes hero Zoffany, Europe’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2015.

Pathfork’s previous wins had included a four length romp on debut and a comprehensive one and a half length win in the G2 Galileo EBF Futurity Stakes, where his beaten rivals included G1 Phoenix Stakes runner up Glor Na Mara, Listed TP Waters EBF Marble Hill Stakes winner Samuel Morse, and the stakes winning 2yo Longhunter.

A son of champion sire Distorted Humor (sire of 17 G1 winners), Pathfork is out of a stakes winning Sadler’s Wells three parts sister to Irish classic winner and G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Spinning World.
The former Irish Champion 2YO has four lots on offer at this weekend’s March Yearling Sale, set to take place at Durbanville racecourse on March 19th and 20th. His draft includes a filly whose dam is a half sister to G3 winner Master Of Note (Lot 121), and a filly whose dam, by Derby winner and classic sire and broodmare sire Sinndar, is a half sister to Irish champion Livadiya (Lot 188).

The sire also has nine lots on sale at next month’s National Yearling Sale, and these include a colt out of a daughter of top class 2yo filly Easyjadeasy (Lot 76), a filly whose dam is a half sister to G1 Empress Club Stakes winner Fair Maiden (Lot 89), a filly out of a five time stakes winner by Fort Wood (Lot 132), a half sister to stakes winning filly Silver Holly (Lot 133), and a filly out of a five time stakes winning daughter of a G2 Merchants winner (Lot 344).
