PHILANTHROPIST SON NOMINATED FOR SOVEREIGN

PHILANTHROPIST SON NOMINATED FOR SOVEREIGN
Phil’s Dream, the Gr1 winning son of Drakenstein Stud’s new sire Philanthropist, has been nominated for a Sovereign Award.
The Sovereign Awards pay tribute to the best Canadian horses of 2013.

Phil’s Dream, who has been nominated for the award of Champion Male Sprinter, enjoyed an excellent 2013, culminating in a first Gr1 success when he won the Nearctic Sprint back in October.

His sire, Philanthropist, is an exceptional young sire, whose other offspring include Canadian Champion Pender Harbour – winner of two legs of Canada’s Triple Crown.

Philanthropist, whose first crop of local foals have received rave reviews, was a high-class racehorse, whose six wins included the Gr3 Queen’s County Handicap.

He is a son of outstanding sire Kris S – whose 88 stakes winners include the Breeders Cup winners Action This Day, Brocco, Prized, Soaring Softly and Hollywood Wildcat. The latter, in turn, produced another Breeders Cup winner in subsequent successful sire, War Chant.

Philanthropist hails from the same Grey Flight female line which produced the late, great South African sire National Assembly, Champion US sire What A Pleasure, and successful US sire, Sovereign Dancer.

The chestnut stands alongside Trippi, Horse Chestnut and What A Winter at Drakenstein.
