Remember a first for Casey
When Do You Remember won Saturday’s Gr1 Woolavington Stakes, the 3yo filly became not only the first Gr1 winner, but first stakes winner, produced by a daughter of Casey Tibbs.
The late Casey Tibbs, who died earlier this year, may have just got off the mark as a damsire, but his daughters have also produced the useful winners Not Liable and Bermuda Sloop.
Another daughter of Casey Tibbs, top-class racemare Sweet Virginia is the dam of impressive recent debut winner, Strongman.
Do You Remember was produced by one of Casey’s finest fillies, the Gr2 SA Oaks winner and Equus Champion Stayer, Festive Occasion.
The latter, who ran third in the Woolavington to Champion Sun Classique, is also the dam of a Black Minnaloushe yearling colt named Notorious. The latter was sold for R275 000 at the 2013 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
Bred by Milkwood Stud, Festive Occasion, like her daughter, was trained by Geoff Woodruff.
She is one of six stakes winning daughters sired by Casey Tibbs (sire of this season’s promising G1 juvenile Masked Lady), whose sire Sadler’s Wells proved the dominant name in the recent Epsom classics.
