Royal Ascot hero’s first crop on offer at 2016 CPYS

Mauritzfontein Stud’s well performed young stallion Byword will be represented by members of his widely anticipated first crop at next week’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Winner of the 2010 G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, Byword will be represented by no fewer than seven first crop yearlings on offer at the CPYS and, judging by their looks, they are bound to find favour with buyers.

From the same male line as outstanding sire Pivotal, Byword was a superb racehorse whose seven wins included six stakes races.

Byword scored the biggest win of his career when accounting for no fewer than seven G1 winners in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, a race won recently by such greats as Bosra Sham, Dubai Millennium, Duke Of Marmalade, Ouija Board, and ten time G1 winner So You Think.
He also ran second (to triple G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Goldikova) in the G1 Prix D’Ispahan and third to triple G1 winner and G1 sire Rip Van Winkle in the G1 Juddmonte International.

From the great Peace family, whose recent stars include top sprinters Continent and Peniaphobia, Byword has all the credentials to do well at stud in South Africa.

Buyers will also have be offered an incentive of R500 000 for the best stakes winner sired by Byword at the end of his/her three-year-old campaign.

Lot 6 – a half sister to six winners, including three stakes fillies, this well related filly is from the great Enchanting family, which produced such star fillies as Enchantress, Harry’s Charm, Laverna and last season’s sensation, Siren’s Call.

Lot 38 – a half brother to three winners, this colt is out of National Assembly half sister to G3 winner Russian Pioneer. This is the legendary “E” family, responsible for such standout champions as Epoque, Eventuail, Escoleta Fitz, Elusive Fort and Horse Of The Year Empress Club.

Lot 62 – a half brother to 3 winners, this colt numbers former Emperors Palace Ready To Run Cup winner and 11 time stakes winner Red Barrel as a half brother. This is also the family of champion Travel North.

Lot 119 –inbred to the legendary mare Special, this well related colt (a half brother to 2 winners including a G3 performer) is out of former G1 SA Fillies Classic winner Urabamba –a daughter of champion sire and broodmare sire Fort Wood.

Lot 182 – a half brother to smart stakes winner Pacific Breeze, this colt hails from the wonderful Soaring family, and his relatives include champions Devil’s Bag, Glorious Song and Singspiel, champion US sire Saint Ballado, and top stallions Rahy and Rakeen.
Lot 185 – out of a winning daughter of G1 Middle Park Stakes winner Ad Valorem, this colt’s dam is a half-sister to AUS$800 000 earner and G3 winner Generalife. His second dam is a stakes placed daughter of the great Australian sire Redoute’s Choice.

Lot 254 –this attractive colt is out of G1 SA Fillies Classic runner up Kalami –whose sire, champion Daylami, is also broodmare sire of Australian champion Pierro. This is the family of millionaire and multiple stakes winner Mannequin.
