Klawervlei recently received a welcome boost for a truly blue blooded mare. Ebaraya, one of the best bred mares in South Africa, is a half-sister to the Queen’s star mare Estimate (Monsun).
The latter won Britain’s greatest staying race recently, the G1 Ascot Gold Cup, to take her tally to tally to four victories in just seven starts. Estimate’s Gold Cup victory was the first in the Gold Cup’s history by a horse owned by the ruling monarch.
Estimate is one of four Group One winners produced by blue hen mare Ebaziya (Darshaan). Ebaziya’s other G1 winners include another Gold Cup hero in Enzeli (Kahyasi), G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Edabiya (Rainbow Quest) and Ebadiyla. The latter, a full sister to Ebaraya, won both the G1 Irish Oaks and G1 Prix Royal Oak.
Ebaraya (Sadler’s Wells) currently has a weanling filly by champion US sire Distorted Humor. This filly is bred on the same Distorted Humor/Sadler’s Wells cross which produced G1 National Stakes winner, and exciting young local sire Pathfork and G1 Prix Jean Prat hero Aesop’s Fables.
This filly’s future stud value must be astronomical!
Ebaraya, who is currently in foal to leading sire Captain Al, is a direct descendant of one of the finest broodmares in the Stud Book – Frizette. The latter is the ancestress of such legends as Mr Prospector, Seattle Slew, Dahlia, Nedawi, Forestry, Rail Link and the mighty Tourbillon to name a few.
Ebaraya’s sire Sadler’s Wells is not only one of the greatest sires in history, but he has built up an astounding record as a broodmare sire. To date, his daughters have produced 292 stakes winners, and a remarkable 49 G1 winners.
Group/Grade One winners produced by Sadler’s Wells include such outstanding performers as Conduit, Divine Proportions, El Condor Pasa, Henrythenavigator, Peeping Fawn, Reliable Man, Sakhee, Silic, Virginia Waters and Youmzain.
